چکیده
Abstract AIMS This study aimed to describe our institutional use of a commercially available mixed reality viewer within multi-disciplinary planning workflow for awake craniotomy surgery and report an assessment its usability. METHOD Three Tesla MRI scans, including 32-direction diffusion tensor sequences, were reconstructed with BrainLab Elements auto-segmentation software. Magic Leap headsets registered shared virtual viewing space display image reconstructions. System Usability Scale was used assess the usability system. RESULTS The utilises facilitate stepwise discussion through four progressive anatomical layers; skin, cerebral cortex, subcortical white matter tracts tumour surrounding vasculature. At each stage relevant members team reviewed key operative considerations, patient positioning, cortical speech mapping protocols surgical approaches tumour. system in 10 consecutive procedures over 5-month period. Ten participants (2 Anaesthetists, 5 Neurosurgical trainees, 2 Speech therapists, 1 Neuropsychologist) completed assessments, reporting mean score 71.5. Feedback highlighted benefit being able rehearse important steps procedure, positioning anaesthetic access visualising testing protocol mapping. CONCLUSION supports surgery, acceptable degree interface We highlight need consider requirements non-technical, non-neurosurgical when involving activities.

متن کاملAwake Craniotomy and Coaching
Background: The importance of monitoring cognition during awake craniotomy has been well described in previous studies. The relevance of being coached during such a procedure has received less attention and questions still remain unanswered about what factors are the most important herein. Objective: The aim of this study was to qualitatively analyze what factors were, according to our patients...
متن کاملAwake Craniotomy: Lessons Learned
Awake craniotomy is still in its evolutionary stage and is generally successful in a highly motivated patient. The attending anesthesiologist must ensure that patient is optimally sedated and pain free yet readily arousable. In addition, it is essential to have a Plan B and C ready in case the first one fails. We adopted awake craniotomy technique in a 33 yr old male patient undergoing excision...

UNLABELLED The awake craniotomy technique was originally introduced for the surgical treatment of epilepsy and has subsequently been used in patients undergoing surgical management of supratentorial tumors, arteriovenous malformation, deep brain stimulation, and mycotic aneurysms near critical brain regions. This surgical approach aims to maximize lesion resection while sparing important areas ...
